Tour Itinerary

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel or preferred location in Jaisalmer in the morning. From here, you will leave the city behind and travel west through the open desert landscape towards Tanot.

The distance from Jaisalmer to Tanot Mata Temple is approximately 120 km, with the drive taking around 2 hours, depending on road conditions.

Your first stop is Tanot Mata Temple, located close to the India–Pakistan border.

The temple is an important religious site and is also closely associated with stories from the 1965 and 1971 India–Pakistan wars. Take some time to visit the temple, observe the surroundings and learn about its history and local significance.

The temple is still an active place of worship, so visitors should dress respectfully and follow the instructions at the site.

After visiting Tanot Mata, continue towards Longewala. This section of the journey takes you through a quieter and more remote part of the Thar Desert.

Rather than being simply a transfer between attractions, the drive gives you an opportunity to see a side of the Jaisalmer region that many visitors do not experience on a standard city tour.

Continue to Longewala, a location remembered for the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 India–Pakistan War.

Your driver can help you understand the route and local context, while the memorial area provides an opportunity to learn more about the events associated with the battle.

Spend time at the Longewala War Memorial, which commemorates the Indian soldiers who fought during the 1971 battle.

The memorial and its displays offer a more tangible connection to the history of the area. Allow yourself time to explore rather than rushing through the visit.

After completing your visit to Longewala, begin the drive back to Jaisalmer.

The return journey covers approximately 124 km, while the Tanot Mata–Longewala section is around 52 km.

You should expect to return to Jaisalmer in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the time spent at each stop and road conditions.
